Student Leaders in Service
AmeriCorps Student Leaders in Service (SLS)
Student Leaders in Service is a part-time AmeriCorps program administered by Massachusetts Campus Compact and facilitated by the Office of Service Learning and Community Action (SLCA). Student Leaders in Service involves 325 members at 35 campuses in MA, CT, and PR.
AmeriCorps members who successfully complete a minimum of 300 hours of service (within the course of a year) receive an education award of $1,175. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans or to pay all or part of the cost of attending a qualified institution of higher education.
Service Learning course and federal work-study hours can count toward the 300 hours of service. The only volunteer activities that are not allowed are those prohibited by AmeriCorps, including lobbying, political, religious, and some advocacy activities. The SLCA can assist students with identifying community partners with whom these service hours can be completed.
