Programs for High School Students

Professional Studies offers challenging two- and five-week summer programs for advancing high school students. Programs are intensive, fun, and designed to teach students competitive, practical skills in one academic area of communication and the arts. As a Pre-College or Summer Institute student, you can look forward to achieving:

  • Basic knowledge of current industry practices and requirements

  • Portfolio or audition materials for your college applications (Pre-College non-credit studio programs)

  • Skills in project presentation, debating, and research (Journalism and Political Communication Institutes)

Programs are competitive. Plan to apply to our summer programs and submit your completed application materials early.

Summer Institutes

  • Summer Journalism Institute (two weeks)
    Develop basic journalistic techniques and approaches to produce journalism in a variety of formats. This residential program is for high school students who have a passion for the news, storytelling, and communicating.
  • Political Communication Leadership Institute (two weeks)
    Explore topics and approaches suitable for public service, social advocacy, civic engagement, crisis management, public policy, politics, and communicating with media in this one-week residential program.
