International Seminar/Practicum in China

This course allows GMCA students a substitute for GM690 Internship for Global Marketing Communication and Advertising. This course is intended to expand GMCA students’ knowledge of global marketing, and provide a unique experience exploring media and marketing communications practices in China.

This 4-credit course will be taught as a seminar/practicum, allowing students to observe media and marketing communication practices in both Beijing and Shanghai. The course allows students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real global business environments. Part of the program itinerary includes attending guest lectures relating to global marketing, public relations, and business. Students will visit local companies in Beijing and Shanghai. Students will also participate in cultural visits including the Great Wall, Forbidden City and the Summer Palace in Beijing as well as Shanghai's World Financial Center, amongst other sites. Cost of guides, transportation and entry fees are included in the program fees.



Sunday - Monday 1 - 2 Departure from the US to Beijing (depending on your flight departure time and arrival time)
Tuesday 3 ARRIVAL DAY - Group airport pick-up at Beijing Capitol Airport - drop off at hotel
Wednesday 4 Welcome Reception, meeting with students, tour CUC campus, visit Bird's Nest.
Thursday 5 Guest lecture, Introduction of Media in China, class time.
Friday 6 Guest lecture, Recording Industry in China, class time, Visit to 798 Art Zone.
Saturday 7 Visit to Great Wall and Summer Palace.
Sunday 8 Free day
Monday 9 Guest lecture, Cross Cultural Communication, class time. Visit to YOUKU
Tuesday 10 Guest lecture, Chinese Media Law from the Prospective of Freedom of Expression/Fredom of Expression in the Age of Information. Visit to National Museum of China.
Wednesday 11 Guest lecture, Media Management in China. Visit to VOLKSWAGEN
Thursday 12 Students take bullet train to Shanghai. Visit to DDB.
Friday 13 Visit to Edelmen, Brand Town Communications, and Mediamen.
Saturday 14 Shanghai City tour - Pudong, The Bund, and Yu Garden.
Sunday 15 Shanghai City tour continues - Jade Buddha Temple and the Moganshan 50 Contemporary Art District.
Monday 16 Visit to Shanghai Museum. Alumni meeting/panel discussion.
Tuesday 17 Guest lecture, Public Relations, Visit to Shanghai Entertainment Team Media Group.
Wednesday 18 Guest lecture, Advertising in China: Development & Practice, class time.
Thursday 19 Group work and final presentations. Farewell Dinner.
Friday 20 DEPARTURE DAY - Group airport drop-off at Shanghai Pudong Airport
