Registration & Payments
Please remember to pay a $50 apartment/damage deposit before registering for classes.
View your term calendar for class registration dates. You will need to visit eCommon and log in using your ECnet username and password. You should follow the online “Registration Instructions” on the Registrar’s website.
- Fall and spring semester undergraduates must register for 16 credits.
- Fall and spring semester grad students must register for a minimum of 8 credits and a maximum of 12 credits.
- All summer semester students must register for a minimum of 8 credits and a maximum of 12 credits.
- Every Los Angeles student must register for one 4-credit or one 8-credit internship; 2-credit internships are not an option.
- Participants may not complete more than one internship during the semester.
- Make sure you register for the appropriate internship in your major.
Complete any registration changes before arriving in Los Angeles. Drop/Adds will be allowed on a limited basis, and by petition only, once you arrive in Los Angeles.
Credit Evaluation for Graduation (Taken from the Undergraduate Catalogue)
Every student must file a Graduation Application at the Student Service Center. Students are required to schedule a senior credit evaluation before their last semester of attendance to ensure that they will be academically cleared for graduation. Senior credit evaluations will be done at the Student Service Center. It is the sole responsibility of the student to ensure that all degree requirements as specified in this catalogue are met. Failure to be aware of a provision does not excuse a student from adhering to it. All students will be billed a Commencement Fee at the time of billing for the start of their last year of attendance, and must pay this fee regardless of whether or not they participate in Commencement exercises.
You will not be able to register without first submitting an apartment/damage deposit.
A $50 apartment/damage deposit must be paid before you register for classes. Apartment/damage deposits cover minor apartment damages, lost keys, etc. (Please note that you will be billed for any major damage to your apartment.) If there are no issues with your apartment checkout, the $50 will be returned to your student account after the end of term.
All External Program deposits must be made online. Emerson accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards as well as online ACH payments using checking or savings account information. Debit card payments are handled as credit card payments. Payments may be made by students or parents via the International Study and External Programs Deposits and Payments website. Please follow the payment instructions carefully and select the option: Los Angeles $50 Apartment/Damage Deposit.
Invoices will be mailed the first week in June for the fall term and the first week of December for the spring term. An invoice for the Los Angeles Summer Program will be mailed by the External Programs Office in mid-April.
You must be financially cleared on all your accounts with the Student Financial Services Office to attend the program.
If you are currently paying under a deferred payment plan such as TuitionPay, keep in mind that the costs may be different than you had originally planned. You must make arrangements to deal with this discrepancy before departure. Contact TuitionPay directly or the Student Financial Services Office at 617-824-8655.

There are two work-study positions available in Los Angeles. It requires 8 hours/week, usually one day a week. Students apply via the online Student Employment system on eCampus. Make sure you bring all necessary documentation for completing I-9 and W-4 forms with you.
Withdrawal from the Program
If you decide, for any reason, that you must withdraw from the program you must submit formal notice in writing to the External Programs Office.
A phone call is not sufficient notification.
