Los Angeles Program
Qualified juniors, seniors, and graduate students may enroll for one semester of study at Emerson Los Angeles, a residential program with a full semester of internship opportunities and coursework during the fall and spring semesters, as well as a shortened summer session.
Emerson Los Angeles (ELA) will significantly expand the College’s current program of professional internships at television and film studios, music companies, media outlets, marketing agencies, and related enterprises. The internship program, now in its 27th year, will enroll approximately 200 students, mostly seniors, fall and spring semesters. A smaller class is chosen for summer term. Emerson students who have participated in the L.A. Program gained knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their chosen crafts before launching their post-graduate lives and careers.
ELA is commited to teaching excellence, innovation, interdisciplinary, and project-based, experiential learning. In the future, ELA will expand its programmatic offerings substantially. For example, new programs will be created to attract more graduate students, mid-career professionals, and industry executives from around the world.
Emerson students who are accepted into the program will register for an internship course, taken for 4 or 8 college credits. The internship course requires completion of both academic assignments and a specific number of hours at the intern site. With more than 1,000 internships in all aspects of the entertainment industry, including film, television, radio, performance, new media, music, management, journalism, publicity, and public relations, the LA Program offers a broad range of opportunities in a variety of fields. Since its inception, the ELA Program has provided internship opportunities to more than 4,300 Emerson students.
