Pre-Arrival Information for China

You will need to plan for obtaining a Chinese visa and shop around for the lowest airfare. CUC will arrange for a letter of invitation for each student as proof of participation in the program for the visa application.

Arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK)

Beijing Capital Intl. Airport is the main international airport serving Beijing. It is the main airport serving China and is the second busiest airport in the world. International visitors will arrive at Terminal 3, one of the largest enclosed spaces in the world. Beijing Capital Airport is located 32 km (20 mi) northeast of Beijing's city center in an enclave of Chaoyang District. The airport is approximately a 1 1/2 hour drive from the CUC campus.

  • Beijing is 13 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) during the fall.
  • Most Chinese use the 24-hour clock (13:00 = 1:00 pm, 18:00 = 6:00 pm, 23:45 = 11:45 pm)
  • Learn to convert temperatures from Celsius into Fahrenheit so you’ll know what the temperature is (Celsius x 1.8 + 32 = Fahrenheit).
