About the Program
Sophomores, juniors, and first-semester seniors of any major may apply to spend one semester (either fall or spring) at Communication University of China (CUC), located in Beijing.
This will be an enlightening opportunity for Emerson students to study Chinese culture, gain an understanding of the fast-growing Chinese media market, and exchange knowledge with Chinese and international students. Applicants should be self-sufficient, highly motivated, independent, and ready for a challenge.
Emerson students will be enrolled for 16 credits of coursework. CUC offers a limited number of courses in English, which may include intercultural communication, Chinese culture and society, media in China, Chinese film seminar, and several more. Emerson students are required to take a Mandarin Chinese course.
CUC’s International Residence Center offers students a comfortable place to stay during their study. Meals can be purchased at the two student canteens, which offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a large supermarket and a number of cafes on campus, including some Western food options. Meals, spending money, travel expenses, visa application fees, and other expenses are the responsibility of the individual student.
The CUC’s academic calendar is different than Emerson's; its fall term begins in mid-September and ends in mid-January. The spring term begins in late February and ends in July. Please view the calendar for more information.
