About the China Exchange Program
Sophomores, juniors, and first-semester seniors of any major may apply to spend one semester (fall) at Communication University of China (CUC), located in Beijing.
This will be an opportunity for Emerson students to study Chinese culture and history and take a class in Mandarin Chinese. Applicants should be self-sufficient, highly motivated, independent, and ready for a challenge.
Emerson students will be enrolled for 16 credits of coursework. CUC offers a limited number of courses in English, which may include intercultural communication, Chinese culture and society, media in China, and more. Emerson students are required to take a Mandarin Chinese course.
CUC’s International Residence Center offers exchange students western-style dorm rooms to live in. Meals can be purchased at the two student canteens, which offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a large supermarket and a number of cafes on campus, including some Western food options. Meals, spending money, travel expenses, visa application fees, and other expenses are the responsibility of the individual student.
The CUC’s academic calendar is different than Emerson’s; its fall term begins in mid-September and ends in mid-January. Please view the calendar for more information.
