Sharmishtha Roy Chowdhury is an historian with research interests in modern world history, modern India, modern Asia, the modern Middle East, and intellectual and cultural history.
She has extensive experience in teaching both western and non-western history. Before joining the faculty at Emerson College, she taught at the University of Connecticut, Stamford, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Northwestern University. Her historical novel, The Communist Cookbook, (Penguin Books, India) was published in 2013. She is currently working on a scholarly book on the politics of space, travel, and memory during the last years of the British Empire in India.
