Bob Nesson is an award-winning independent filmmaker and principal of Nesson Media Boston, Inc. He was recognized as Emerson's outstanding adjunct faculty member and received the Stanzler Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2010.
He is the recipient of fellowships in film, journalism and environmental studies, including those from the Flaherty Film Seminar and the Society of Environmental Journalists. Bob received a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artists Fellowship Award for Excellence in Film and Video in 2015.
Nesson has taught environmental filmmaking workshops internationally, including KinoSchool in Russia and the Black Sea Environmental Seminar in Turkey.
Much of Bob's work centers on the urban environment, particularly transportation and health. He has served or is serving on boards of several groups, including the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition, Mystic View Task Force, and Somerville Cable Access Television. His 2014 documentary, Power to the Pedals: Wenzday Jane and the Culture of Change, is widely cited as a model of what can be done to improve our cities.
