Oliver Jones has been a cultural and hard news journalist for exactly 20 years this October, his first piece being a rollicking interview with the late, great Irish actor and drinker Richard Harris. Writing for such publications as Variety, Details, Us Weekly, and New York magazine, Oliver has interviewed thousands of actors, musician, directors and derelicts across the pop culture universe.
In 2004, Oliver took a staff position in the Los Angeles bureau of People magazine where he continued to cover entertainment as well as hard news, winning an award for his coverage of a fundamentalist Mormon sect on the Arizona-Utah border. Over the last decade, he has covered every Oscars — a classic movie junkie, he wept when he witnessed Lauren Bacall take home her honorary Oscar — and Golden Globes, and credits much of his success to the fact that he has owned his own tuxedo since 1991.
Starting in January, he embarked on a new chapter in his career as a freelancer in the still wild and woolly world of Internet journalism, covering film, culture and news for Yahoo!, The Daily Beast and Los Angeles magazine, among others. He has been teaching at Emerson since 2012.
