As a designer, educator, and letterpress printer, Melissa is passionate about the printed page. Her enthusiasm for print first led her to a career in publishing at some of Boston's leading trade publishers, including Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Candlewick Press. After several years of working in publishing, she transitioned into freelance work while starting her own letterpress stationery studio, Pressbound. Currently she is back to an in-house position as a senior graphic designer in the marketing and communications department at Northeastern University.

For the last nine years she has taught courses in publication design at Emerson, focusing on Adobe Creative Suite for printed projects as well as magazine and book design.

When she is not working or teaching, she is producing letterpress paper goods in her studio in Beverly, MA. The work is fueled by retro nostalgia, vintage folk art, and life in New England. Each item she produces is an original design, starting as a hand sketch, refined on the computer, and then letterpress printed by hand on antique presses, one at a time.

Since starting Pressbound in 2008, she produced a line of wholesale stationery that was exhibited at the National Stationery Show in New York City and sold at retailers across the country and in her Etsy shop. She has made countless appearances at craft shows and events, including the Renegade Craft Fair, Bizarre Bazaar and SoWA Holiday.
