Kathy Hassinger is artistic director of Dance Currents, Inc., and teaches Perspectives in World Dance at Emerson.
Dance Currents Inc.'s most recent productions include organizing and performing in the Newton Dance Concert, as part of the Newton Festival of the Arts, 2015 and a multimedia performance with artist Robert Murrell, including poetry, dance, projected backdrops and live art entitled "Drawn In" on January 31, 2015. Dance Currents has recently received a grant to continue their work with the Newton Festival of the Arts, 2016. Mrs. Hassinger is working on a film entitled Living the Legacy of Modern Dance and continues her study and research in this field. A few other dance productions in the Boston area and New York City include Dances to the Music of Archangelo Corelli , Three Modern Choreographers (at Triskelion Arts in New York), Bridging the Gulf (a dance and music benefit for Turkey Creek Community Initiatives), Currents of Contemporary Choreographers and The Haiku Project (a dance and music benefit for victims of the Great Earthquake in Japan).
Hassinger was head of the Dance Department at Newton Country Day School before teaching at Emerson. While there she received an award for developing self esteem in students from the Calesa Foundation (1993). She has presented numerous professional dance concerts and choreographed a wide variety of musicals.
