Currently, John Pirone is teaching two American Sign Language courses at Emerson and an Interim Director of Deaf Studies at Holy Cross. Also, he currently works with five other colleges/universities to conduct a research on ASL curricula and pedagogical practices.
Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of a nonprofit membership organization, Massachusetts State Association of the Deaf (MSAD).
His involvement with the Deaf community is extensive. He co-founded a local deaf theatre company, worked with the Disability Law Center to produce a video to educate Deaf people about voting rights, co-founded a nonprofit organization, Deaf Youth Outdoor Leadership, for high school students, and successfully changed the state's public policies regarding accessibility for people with disabilities in the legislative process. He currently serves on a K-12 school, The Learning Center for the Deaf.
He is currently a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D) candidate at Northeastern University.
