Elizabeth Parfitt writes nonfiction with a focus on education, teaching, rhetoric and popular culture. Her essays and columns have appeared in The Boston Globe, Inside HigherEd, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Research/Penn State and The Writing Lab Newsletter. She is actively involved in service learning, and recently published a chapter on first-year writing in Service Learning and Literary Studies in English.
In addition, Parfitt teaches, trains, and mentors new graduate student instructors in the First-Year Writing Program. Her scholarly work on pedagogy and writing studies has been presented at national conferences, including the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Northeast Modern Language Association, and Narrative Matters.
She is also a novelist whose latest project, If All Else Fails, explores the culture and conflicts of life in a cancer biology lab.
GLOBAL & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
The East Boston High School and Emerson Tutoring Project sends trained graduate student tutors into English Language Arts classes to work with 10th grade students on writing composition and reading comprehension.
