A Boston-area native, Dr. Rosengard began his broadcast journalism career as a Washington (DC) correspondent for WAND-TV/Decatur, Illinois, an assignment that was part of his Northwestern University graduate program. Full-time newsroom assignments as a writer, reporter, anchor and producer followed at network affiliates in Columbus, Ohio (WBNS), Providence, Rhode Island (WJAR), and here in Boston (WCVB).
He transitioned to higher education joining the faculty at Lyndon State College in Vermont before heading to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he helped put the first ever student newscast on the air. Faculty positions at the University of Memphis and the University of Oklahoma followed. His research interests include the evolving definition of news, the unique challenges of pursuing news with students and the true role of looks and personal style at the anchor desk.
Since turning to teaching, he has returned to television newsrooms as a reporter and assistant producer on summer assignment in Plattsburgh, New York (WPTZ), Duluth, Minnesota (KBJR), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (KOCO) and Louisville, Kentucky (WLKY).
Rosengard's students have earned national awards for their newscasts from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Broadcast Education Association. He has been honored for his work in the classroom, as an academic adviser and as a newsman.
He is a member of the Boston Gay Men's Chorus and on the board of directors for the Miss Boston Scholarship Organization.
