2014 Emerson College Film Festival and LA Showcase
We in the department have been giving the festival formerly known as the LA Showcase a bit of a facelift. We have been listening to the feedback that more of you want to participate.
In the past the festival has screened only a handful of films, mainly narrative, in LA with a repeat screening in Boston. This year we're making some major changes that we hope you'll be as excited about as we are. Not only are we screening more work on both coasts, but 10 filmmakers will be flown to LA and offered housing in the new LA center and we will be awarding $10,000 in cash prizes!
The 2014 Emerson College Film Festival and LA Showcase
The Emerson College Film Festival
We will be screening three programs (60-90 minutes each) of student shorts in the Bright Screening Room on Sunday, March 27th followed by a red carpet reception open to the public where we will announce the winner of the audience award. These films will be selected by VMA faculty.
The Audience Award
We are offering a $1000 cash award and a trip to LA in the fall of 2014 for the LA Showcase repeat screening for the film that garners the highest rating from the audience. Like most festivals there will be ballots at each screening where anyone in the audience can rate a film from 1 to 5. They will need to stay for the whole program in order to vote (but won't need to go to all three screening sessions). All selected films will be coached on audience building strategies.
Best of Category Awards
There will be an addition 4 categories (TBD based on submissions). The films chose by faculty as the top in each category will be awarded a $500 cash prize, a package of software and services and a trip to LA in the fall of 2014 for the LA Showcase repeat screening.
The LA Showcase
A "best of" screening that will happen in LA in October (moved from the spring) where there will be additional cash prizes. These films will be selected by a committee of faculty, staff and alumni. These filmmakers will also receive a trip to LA in the fall of 2014 for the LA Showcase screening. There will be a three-day program of events and meetings planned for all the participants.
