Marketing Communication Faculty
Catherine Flanagan brings extensive experience in marketing communications to her faculty appointment at Emerson. At Emerson, she has been honored by induction into the College's Kappa Gamma Phi Sorority as an Honorary Sister.
Flanagan has witnessed first-hand the dramatic developments in the U.S. telecommunications industry, from the break-up of national monopolies to the current dependence on wireless technology. A recognized expert in telecommunications marketing, she spent over twenty-five years leading initiatives for New England's dominant telecommunications company, as it evolved from New England Telephone to NYNEX to Verizon Communications.
She was responsible for marketing programs designed to grow residential and business-to-business market share and managed strategic plans to introduce or enhance branded products and services. Flanagan has considerable experience in segmentation, competitive and pricing analysis, advertising, direct marketing, collateral, and sales support. Market research, including multi-wave perception and advertising effectiveness studies, guided her work launching new products, rolling out products in new markets and retaining both residential and business clients.
Flanagan's expertise in marketing is informed by her telecommunications experience in other important areas; she served in executive positions in operations, channel management, the small business, consumer and professional service markets, and ran a multi-location call center.
With several advanced business certifications from Simmons, Babson College, and MIT's Sloan School of Management, Flanagan consults for several companies in the Northeast and has a particular interest in start-ups. She has also enjoyed faculty positions at the New England Institute of Art and Roger Williams University.
