Marketing Communication Faculty
Cathy Waters' experience in marketing began in the Fortune 100 and expanded to start-ups and nonprofit organizations. She is a member of the Marketing Educators' Association, and as Associate Chair of the department, works on efforts to enhance marketing education. Before coming to Emerson, she served on the faculty at Boston College's Carroll School of Management, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing.
Prior to her academic career, Waters worked for IBM, where she developed her skills in market analysis, forecasting, technical sales and sales management, and employee recruitment and development. Focusing on clients in the financial services industry, she worked with Depositor's Trust (now KeyBank) to implement the first ATM network in the state of Maine and helped to launch IBM's first internal email system. She was a partner in a start-up reverse logistics company focused on the responsible disposal of "eWaste" and she has managed programs and volunteers in the nonprofit sector.
Waters is interested in innovation, both in the classroom and where marketing converges with technology and new ideas. She has published cases in Strategic Marketing Management Cases and the Journal of Business Research.
