Lacerte Family Writing & Academic Resource Center
Writing Tutoring
Communication is an integral part of Emerson, and the Writing and Academic Resource Center is committed to collaborating with students to help them become better writers. We believe that writing isn't something to be "fixed," but rather something that evolves through a process. Therefore, we encourage students to return often to the Center with their drafts so that we can focus on their long-term development as writers.
Tutoring Sessions
One-on-one writing tutoring sessions can include:
- Brainstorming ideas
- Discussing reading material
- Organizing papers
- Developing a thesis
- Drafting, revising, and proofreading papers
- Improving language usage and grammar
- Citing research properly to avoid plagiarism
In these tutoring sessions, we can address writing concerns such as analysis, voice, transitions, writing for a specific audience, and understanding the conventions of various genres (e.g., academic research papers, application letters, nonfiction essays, senior and graduate theses or capstone projects, fiction, poetry, and screenplays). We teach students the tools to improve their own writing. We do not grade or evaluate students' work.
