A Term faculty appointment is a full-time appointment issued for a year or a semester. It is a non-tenure track appointment. Some Term positions may be renewed and appointees reappointed depending on the needs of the department.

Faculty Search Committees
Search and Appointment of New Full-time Faculty Members follow the guidelines described in Section 5.1 – 5.3 of the Faculty Handbook (effective September 8, 2006 ).
All faculty and staff members must attend one of the scheduled search committee orientation workshops in order to be eligible to serve on a faculty search committee during the 2009-10 academic year . The offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources will schedule several orientations for which faculty and staff can sign up. These orientations will address search and screen procedures, best practices, and college policies. Topics to be discussed include pre-search issues, recruitment, pre-interview, interview best practices, recruitment, search committee responsibilities, and post-interview techniques. Read the Faculty Search Committee Orientation to review these search and screen procedures. An Authorization Form is required for candidate interviews.

Department of Communication Studies
Assistant Professor of Philosophy
Description:
The Department of Communication Studies at Emerson College seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the time of hire, September 1, 2010. College-level teaching experience is required. Candidates are expected to provide evidence of a scholarly/research agenda beyond completion of the dissertation. The appointment will begin September 1, 2010.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the ethics and values general education curriculum; there is no philosophy major. The successful candidate will show an interest in developing and teaching a broad array of introductory philosophy courses to talented students with widely divergent interests. Additional courses will be developed and offered through the Institute for Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies; therefore an interdisciplinary focus is highly desirable. There may also be opportunities for developing and teaching courses in the major programs in the Communication Studies Department. We are particularly interested in candidates who can develop courses that address diversity and multiculturalism.
Faculty members in the pre-tenure years normally teach 5 courses/year, with an opportunity for some additional summer teaching. All full-time faculty beyond the initial year engage in service/committee work.
An application should include the following: a cover letter outlining interest and credentials, a curriculum vita, evidence of teaching excellence, a writing sample, and contact information for references, including at least one referee familiar with the applicant's teaching. Also, arrange to have at least three confidential letters of recommendation sent; these may be from the references noted above.
