A Term faculty appointment is a full-time appointment issued for a year or a semester. It is a non-tenure track appointment. Some Term positions may be renewed and appointees reappointed depending on the needs of the department.

Faculty Search Committees

Search and Appointment of New Full-time Faculty Members follow the guidelines described in Section 5.1 – 5.3 of the Faculty Handbook (effective September 8, 2006 ). 

All faculty and staff members must attend one of the scheduled search committee orientation workshops in order to be eligible to serve on a faculty search committee during the 2009-10 academic year . The offices of Academic Affairs and Human Resources will schedule several orientations for which faculty and staff can sign up. These orientations will address search and screen procedures, best practices, and college policies. Topics to be discussed include pre-search issues, recruitment, pre-interview, interview best practices, recruitment, search committee responsibilities, and post-interview techniques. Read the Faculty Search Committee Orientation to review these search and screen procedures. An Authorization Form is required for candidate interviews.

Department of Visual and Media Arts
Chair of the Department of Visual and Media Arts

Description:

The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College seeks to fill the position of Department Chair.  Appointment will be at the rank of Full Professor.  A terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in media production, media studies, or a related field is required.  Candidates are expected to have demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, a record of professional achievement in their field, and evidence of teaching excellence.  The Chair provides leadership and vision, manages the day-to-day functions of the Department, serves as an advocate for the Department, oversees the curriculum, and mentors faculty.  The appointment begins August 15, 2010.


The Department of Visual and Media Arts is the largest department at the College and offers B.A. and B.F.A. degrees in Media Production, a B.A. in Media Studies, and a new M.F.A. in Media Production.  It is committed to offering students an education in the convergent media arts while recognizing traditional media and disciplines.  Media production in the Department encompasses film, video/television, digital media and computer animation, writing, audio, etc.  The curriculum balances courses in theory and practice that are grounded in a solid foundation in the liberal arts.  The Department has approximately 1,400 undergraduate majors, 50 graduate students, and a faculty of 40 full-time and 50 adjunct members.  It is recognized for its curricular innovation and leadership role in educating media artists and professionals.
