About Boston
Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in America and, arguably, the best college town in the country.
The City is blessed with an abundance of natural, cultural, educational and medical resources and a robust economy. The latter is fueled by the brainpower generated at the area's numerous colleges and universities. In addition to Emerson College, these include Harvard University, MIT, Boston University, Boston College, Tufts University, Brandeis University, Suffolk University, and University of Massachusetts (just to name a few).
Boston's numerous historic attractions, vibrant ethnic neighborhoods, upscale shops and restaurants and proximity to beaches, mountains and lakes make it one of the most popular tourists destinations in the U.S. While nearly four million people live in the metropolitan area, Boston itself is a relatively small, manageable and "walkable" city.
As an international center for education, technology, finance, architecture and medicine, Boston maintains its reputation as a world-class city. Some of its noted attractions include the Boston Common, the State House, The Freedom Trail, Fenway Ballpark, the Museum of Fine Arts, Symphony Hall, the Museum of Science, New England Aquarium, the fabled North End and Waterfront sections (including historic Faneuil Hall and trendy Quincy Market).
Boston is also a great sports town, fielding professional teams in baseball, football, soccer and hockey (and, of course hundreds of college teams).
The city is easily accessible by highway, rail and air. Boston's Logan Airport is serviced by nearly all domestic and international airlines.
