Equipment Distribution Center (EDC)

The Emerson College Equipment Distribution Center (EDC) is located on the first floor of the Little Building, 80 Boylston Street and includes the Film Equipment Center and the Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Centers.

The EDC loans professional, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to faculty and students to fulfill class assignments. Professional staff and student employees are available to provide technical support when needed.

Reservations can only be made in person in the EDC, or online (login "firstname_lastname" (all lower case), and your regular Emerson password).

Film Equipment Center (FEC)

The Film Equipment Center (FEC) has an extensive inventory of 16mm film cameras and peripheral support gear. It schedules the use of flatbed editing equipment for all film classes within the Department of Visual and Media Arts.

Inventory includes:

16mm Bolex H16
Arriflex SR-1and SR-2 and Aaton XTR professional 16mm cameras, with all equipment including hard disk drive and flash memory audio recorders for field recording applications
A vast array of field lighting kits, light meters, tripods, and field grip gear

The FEC also vends 35mm, 4X5 view cameras, and medium-format still photo cameras to students enrolled in photography classes and supports the operation of the photo/darkroom lab.

Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Center (VANM)

The Video, Audio, New Media Equipment Center (VANM) provides an assortment of digital still cameras by Canon and Nikon, plus a wide array of professional video camcorders by Sony, Panasonic, and JVC.

The new Solid State Digital Memory concept is also very prevalent with the Panasonic P2 and AVCHD memory card systems, as well as the popular Sony SxS memory card systems for the Sony PMW EX-3 High Definition portable camcorders. The VANM also provides an ample assortment of Standard Definition camcorders that record on DVCam and Mini DV Digital Videotape media.

Additionally, many varieties of professional All-Digital field audio recorders are provided, with upscale versions that provide SMPTE Timecode for synchronous sound recording in the field.

A wide assortment of studio and field microphones, lighting equipment, and other support equipment is available for students who are enrolled in the Visual and Media Arts and Journalism academic programs.

Inventory includes:

Panasonic and JVC Mini-DV, Panasonic DVCProHD camcorders (P2 format)
Sony DVCam format DSR-PD150/170 as well as the PMW-EX3 with the Sony SxS digital format

It also includes the revolutionary Canon 7D HDSLR digital camera for still and full-motion high-definition imaging. Standard-definition camcorders include Sony PDX10, DSR-150, DSR-170, and Panasonic DVX-110B camcorders.

Field microphones include Beyer, Sennheiser, and AudioTechnica directional shotgun microphones with boom poles, and Sound Devices and Zoom H4n Digital audio recorders that employ flash memory and SD memory.
