Nicole Pierce is a choreographer, dancer, and pianist. She is the artistic director of EgoArt, Inc, a Boston-based dance theatre company she founded in 1999. Pierce's choreographic work is eclectic in nature and explores traditional concert dance, multimedia installation, and dance theatre. Her choreography often places audiences in site-specific locations or in constructed environments that incorporate video and sculpture.
Pierce has received artist's fellowships from Somerville Arts Council, the Boston Dance Alliance, Dance Ritual and Research, and The Yard. She has trained in ballet and modern technique under such illustrious teachers as Anna Cheselka, Bella Lewitsky, Joyce Van Derveen, Joe Tremaine, Mark Morris, and Marcus Schulkind, to name a few. Pierce has been called an "unrestrained talent" by Thea Singer (Boston Globe) and her work has been hailed as "expansive, muscular movement etched with vivid detail" by Karen Campbell, also writing in the Globe.
Pierce serves on the dance faculty of Green Street Studios in Cambridge, MA. Her work has been shown throughout New England and New York, and in Philadelphia. A much sought after teacher, Pierce has led master classes at Harvard University, Tufts University, Salem State College, Bridgewater State College, and College of the Holy Cross, among others. In addition, Pierce maintains a private practice teaching classical piano to children and adults.
