  • Bright Lights: Boston Premiere of two Emerson student films I Fell Silent and The Swimmer with directors

    4/18/13
    7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
    Paramount Center
    Bright Family Screening Room

Join us for the Boston premieres of two half-hour short films from Emerson student filmmakers: I Fell Silent, directed by Carson Lund and Michael Basta and co-produced with the National Broadcasting Society, and The Swimmer, directed by Gabriele Urbonaite.

I Fell Silent is a gently surreal meditation on the sensations and anxieties of childhood presented through the perspective of Isaac, a young boy living in an opulent rural home with his mother and grandmother. When the Christmas season arrives and Isaac's extended family disrupts his quiet daily routine, his already haunted imagination is further disturbed.

The Swimmer (the recent recipient of an Audience Award at the 2013 Vilnius IFF Kino Pavasaris) follows Grete (10), a swimmer just beginning lessons. There she meets Ariel (19), who was brought to the pool by her father, swimming coach, when she was 4, and has become a professional swimmer. Ariel is preparing for the upcoming Olympics but is deeply worried about her leg pain. Despite the age difference, the two become friends, as Ariel helps Grete to overcome her fear of jumping into the water.

    4/18/13
    8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
    Cutler Majestic Theatre
    $20 Public, $15 Students & Seniors, $10 Emerson

Shakespeare's first romantic comedy gets a treatment of music from the '70s in this story of love and betrayal involving best friends who fall in love with the same woman. The friends remain loyal only to their own desires, forsaking their friendship and those they love, as they let their passions guide them forward.

This event is not open to the public.
