Services & Policies
The Media Services Center (MSC), located on the third floor of the Ansin Building at 180 Tremont Street, provides the following services:
Circulating Audio Visual Equipment
The MSC provides, maintains, and delivers audiovisual equipment in many of the College’s classrooms and meeting spaces. Staff members are available to assist in the setup and operation of this equipment.
The MSC also circulates video equipment for non-production classes, including digital camcorders, digital still cameras, and digital and analog audio recorders. Students enrolled in production courses are expected to use the equipment provided by the TRF Equipment Distribution Center (EDC).
For reservations or other requests, call the MSC circulation desk at 617-824-8676.
Classroom and Event Assistance
The MSC is responsible for providing and maintaining equipment used in the College's classrooms and meeting spaces, but NOT in production curriculum facilities or dedicated computer facilities. The hardware we provide ranges from simple overhead projectors to high-end data projectors. View the Classroom AV Equipment Inventory Lists »
The MSC provides technical assistance for special events. Services include setting up and operating data projection systems, facilitating teleconferencing, and providing amplification for speakers.
Equipment and labor used for non-course related events are charged back to departments and student groups. View our Rate Sheet »
Video Taping in the Classroom
The MSC can perform single-camera recordings for the documentation of classroom lectures and presentations. These camera setups can be used with distance education meeting software, such as Adobe Connect, or with Skype. The use of these cameras with other systems may need prior setup and software installation on local computers. Please call the MSC with as much advance notice as possible to ensure that we can accommodate your needs. Media Services can assist in setting up the equipment and train users to operate the equipment at no charge. If an MSC technician is requested to videotape the entire class, a rate of $15.00 per hr. will be charged back to the appropriate department.
Video recordings that require multiple cameras or are to be used for archival or broadcast purposes are handled by Emerson Productions in the Department of Televsion, Radio and Film Production. View more info on Emerson Productions' services.
Staff members are available to work one-on-one with students who need assistance integrating media into their course assignments. Students can make an appointment to use online tutorials on their own or work directly with staff members who will assist them in working with software to complete their assignments.
Production Services and Facilities
The MSC houses a number of facilities that are open to all Emerson community members. These include a video studio with videoconference capabilities, two Final Cut Pro editing suites, and six individual computer production suites for creating different types of multimedia. For reservation requests, call our circulation desk at 617-824-8676.
The MSC provides a number of audiovisual production services on a charge-back basis. These include radio and television off-air taping, audio and video duplication, video capture and editing, video format transfer (including pal/secam to NTSC and Beta dubbing), and slide generation. All production work is done within the restrictions of copyright legislation.
Along with our regular video duplication services, we provide services that will digitize video material for faculty members. This material can be uploaded to the Emerson online media library, Median.
Production requests should be directed to Elbert Lee at 617-824-8676.
