Telecommunications
The Department of Telecommunications (Telecom) oversees the College's phone infrastructure, operating the College switchboard, maintaining the voicemail system, and purchasing and installing telephones for faculty and staff. Telecom also provides basic phone service for students in residence halls.
Faculty & Staff
To order new equipment, have your department head email us with the request type. Include: type of phone or service needed, jack number (if available), building and office number, and account number. We will prepare an estimate of charges, which must be approved by the department head and returned to us. Please allow 5 business days for standard requests.
For most system repairs and problems, email us, explaining the problem in detail. We will initiate service as soon as we can and attempt to fix the issue by 5 pm the following business day. In the event of a possible emergency situation (e.g. Emerson Police Department or Security phones down), call us directly at x8585.
Students
Each room in Emerson's residence halls comes equipped with a telephone jack (yellow) and an Ethernet jack (purple) for Internet access. Students must bring their own telephones.
Your Internet connection and email account are free. For assistance with your computer hookup, call the IT Help Desk at 617-824-8080 or visit their website.
Emerson provides two types of telephone service for students: Intercom (on-campus only) service for $25.00/semester, local service for $100.00/semester. Emerson does not provide 1+ long distance services for the residence halls. Students will need to obtain a pre-paid calling card or direct bill calling card from the long distance carrier of their choice. Students will need to dial the toll-free number on their carrier's card to access the carrier's network.
