Connecting to the Wired Network
Getting your computer connected to Emerson's wired network couldn't be easier! For the security and integrity of our network, your computer should be up to date before registering your computer. When you plug into the ethernet, you will have basic Internet access to reach Software Update (for OS X) and Windows Update (for Windows). A simple scan is performed at registration to ensure the most important patches are installed, and you will be notified if you need them.
For more information about keeping your computer up to date, refer to our guide on Basic Computer Maintenance »
Also required if you are using a Windows PC is some form of anti-virus protection. As an Emerson student, you are entitled to a free copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection. The virus definitions will only update, however, when you are on campus. Your license of the software is only valid while you are a current student.
Please note: if you already have anti-virus software installed on your computer, you do not need to install Symantec Endpoint. Do not install both. If you choose to use Endpoint instead, you should uninstall your existing software. Having multiple anti-virus programs installed at the same time can cause them to conflict with each other.

By registering for and using Emerson's network, you are agreeing to Emerson's Electronic Information Policy. Familiarize yourself with it, as well as other Emerson College IT Policies.
Connecting Your Cable

Connect your computer to the purple wall jack with an ethernet cable.
If you do not have an ethernet cable, one can be purchased at the Emerson Bookstore, or Staples, Radio Shack, or Best Buy, all nearby.
Depending on your campus location, you may find other color ports, as seen to the left. Yellow ports are for phones, but purple is generally the only one you'll need.
Connecting Your Computer

Open your web browser. You should automatically be directed to http://netreg.student.emerson.edu.
Click on "Connect My Computer" on the left side.
Enter your ECnet username and password and read the Policy Guidelines before clicking on the button marked "I agree to the above policy and wish to register my computer."
That's it! Restart your computer to complete the network refresh and gain access to the network. As a student, you are entitled to have 2 devices registered to the wired network. This restriction does not apply to ECwireless.
