Connecting to the VPN with Windows Vista or 7 with a VPN Client
Though Windows Vista and Windows 7 both offer built-in tools to access Emerson's VPN, in some configurations it may be preferable to use a VPN client instead. Download that below and proceed with the instructions.
Download the VPN Client Installer for Windows Vista or 7 32bit »
Download the VPN Client Installer for Windows Vista or 7 64bit »
To determine which download you need, click on your Start Menu, and then right-click on the Computer shortcut and choose Properties. Look for System Type, under the System heading.
Download and launch the installer above.
You may get the above Windows Security warning, depending on your settings. This is OK; click Install and advance through the installer with all of the default options.
1. When the install is finished, launch the client; the installer created an easy Desktop shortcut. This shortcut is also available in your Start Menu, under Nortel VPN Client.
2. The first time you launch the client, you will be presented with this empty window. To create a new profile, click Profile WIzard on the left side.

Enter a name for the connection; this is for your reference, but you'll want to name it something recognizable like Emerson VPN. Click Next.
On the next screen, ensure that the default choice, IPSec Tunnel, is still selected and click Next.

The Destination screen needs the hostname or IP Address to connect to in order to access the VPN. Fill it in and click Next.
- IP Address: 199.94.95.12
On the next screen, ensure that the default choice of Username and Password is still selected and click Next.

Now you need to actually enter your ECnet username and password. Click Next again.

The Group ID and Password screen defaults to No... Change it to Yes, I have a Group ID and Group Password. Fields will appear at the bottom where you can input Emerson's Group ID and password. If you do not have this information, please call the Help Desk at 617-824-8080 and it will be provided to you. Click Next.
The next few screens we'll leave as default.
- Choose No, I do not want to dialup first (unless you use dial-up Internet access!). Click Next.
- Choose No, I do not want to launch applications. Click Next.
- Choose I will not define a failover profile. Click Next.
- Choose Active Keepalives. Click Next.
Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

If you're ready to Connect, click on the Connect button at the bottom right.

Nortel VPN Client will attempt to complete your connection to the VPN.

3. When the connection has been established, you will be presented with the Security Banner you see above. Click Accept/Close.

When you're done using the VPN, make sure you disconnect; you can do this through the System Tray icon in the lower right corner of your screen. You may need to use the upward arrow to expand your System Tray first.
