Connecting to the VPN with Mac OS X
These instructions are for users running any recent version of Mac OS X, from 10.5 Leopard through 10.7 Lion. If you're running 10.4 Tiger, please see the section below.
1. Open System Prefences and click on the Network pane. In the bottom left corner, click the Plus sign to add a new connection type.
In the dialog box that opens, change the Interface to VPN and the VPN Type to PPTP. Name the Service something recognizable such as Emerson VPN. This is what you're going to be selecting to connect to in the future, so you'll want to make sure you recognize it. Click Create.
2. Click on the Configuration drop-down box and choose to Add Configuration...
Again, you'll want to name this something recognizable, in the case that you're connecting to multiple VPNs or sharing a computer with another person who might. Click Create.
3. From here, specify the configuration settings as above.
- Server Address: 199.94.95.12
- Account Name: your ECnet username
- Encryption: default, Automatic
Click on Authentication Settings... and ensure that Password is chosen. In the field, type your ECnet password.
Click on Advanced...
Check the box marked Send all traffic over VPN connection, and click OK.
Click Apply to save your settings, and now you can click Connect! Make sure to disconnect from the VPN when you're done using it.
Using 10.4 Tiger?
The process is very similar to above, but the configuration settings are done within the Internet Connect application inside your Applications folder.
