Office of Diversity & Inclusion

The mission of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion arises from the College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as core institutional values. The Office is responsible for:

  • Integrating and promoting diversity and inclusion into the campus strategic planning processes and initiating programs, training sessions, and discussions to foster institutional diversity awareness.
  • Coordinating efforts to enhance the diversity of the College’s faculty, staff, and students, and collaborating with all departments on campus to achieve our College’s diversity goals. This commitment reflects our belief that a diverse and inclusive learning environment enhances the quality of an Emerson education and advances the College’s mission.
  • Providing strategic, integrated program direction and consultation to senior administration on major institutional issues regarding diversity initiatives.
  • Directing the daily activities of the College diversity programs and leading in the development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, proposals, programs, and operating procedures; serving on College planning and policy-making committees including chairing the College's Diversity Council.
  • Monitoring and evaluating programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effecting changes required for improvement.
  • Supervising programs to enhance recruitment, retention, and success of students and/or faculty and staff from underrepresented groups.
  • Assisting the College community in developing, coordinating, and evaluating programs to attract and retain diverse students by providing special programs not limited to traditional educational, vocational, cultural, and social activities.
  • Initiating programs, training sessions, and discussions to foster institutional awareness of, and commitment to, student, faculty, and staff diversity goals.
  • Developing and contributing to studies of institutional needs and trends in areas related to student, faculty, and staff diversity; disseminating findings to inform President's Cabinet and campus of efforts to diversify the campus.
  • Working closely with the President's Council and administrative personnel to establish diversity goals and to encourage and support administrative personnel in their efforts to recruit and retain a diverse student body, faculty, and staff, offering appropriate assistance to departments to achieve diverse applicant pools for academic and staff positions.
